Mathias- I guess my first question to you is any of the above false? What specifically is wrong with the quote? If we believe the gospel, we believe that Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead, then do the promises of the Bible belong to us? Or do we have to earn them? Do we have to have a pure day, week, year and follow all the disciplines perfectly before these promises become ours? Bridges is laying down a foundation of how the gospel and God's grace work hand in hand with personal disciplines. I am certainly not able to live out the disciplines without God's grace. How long can one go in pursuing holiness without grace and without remembering the gospel?

This quote went into my blog because I need reminding that God loves me. I need to remember that God is not waiting for one more mistake, to just kick me out of the kingdom. I need to hear those promises. I need to hear the gospel because day in and day out I am a sinner who gets discouraged and fail and sometimes I just want to give up Christianity and most of time give up life.

Matt here is a review of the book so you can go see what someone else says
http://www.challies.com/archives/book-reviews/t...

I went ahead and ordered you a copy of the book because I think it would encourage you.

does this book just talk about how we need to be disciplined in justifying our sins just so we can live how we want???. I spose I'm playing the D's addvocate, but explain, Todd. What is the joy of the discipline that you learn here and the BALANCE of not continuing in sin???
